International Trade and Finance test
Welcome to the home page of the Chair of International Trade and Finance (ITF) at the Department of Economics. In our teaching and research we provide an empirical perspective on the international and interregional integration of financial and goods markets. Our current main interests and research topics are:
- The determinants of international capital flows and exchange rates.
- The impact of economic globalization on business cycles, asset prices and trade.
- Intranational macroeconomics, the study of economic integration at the regional level to understand the prospective effects of integration between countries.
- International diversification and risk sharing by households, regions and countries.
- Macro-Finance and the identification of macroeconomic risk factors for empirical asset pricing.
Our group offers a broad spectrum of courses in international economics at all levels (undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate). Our teaching is strongly related to and informed by our research. In particular, as we do in our research, we emphasize the application of advanced econometric methods also in our teaching.

Pop quiz. Which has been most important in reducing poverty over time: a) taxes, b) economic growth, c) international trade, or d) government regulation?
We know what our readers would say. But lest you think American young people are slouching toward serfdom, you'll be pleased to know that 53% of U.S. high school seniors also answered "b." The latest version of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) asked this question, among others on economics, and the results will not please members of the Socialist International, or for that matter the Senate Finance Committee.
